James J. Robinson (born on July 12, 1995) is a Filipino/Australian photographer, film director and writer.

Initially shooting from 2014, James has been published by the likes of The New York Times and Vogue, lensed the world’s biggest names including&#38;nbsp;Kylie Jenner, Shania Twain&#38;nbsp;and Rihanna, creative directed and shot campaigns for Apple&#38;nbsp;and Valentino, plus shot and directed hundreds more ad campaigns, short films, album covers, magazine editorials and music videos.

His work pays particular attention to character, lighting, and narrative. He received his Bachelor of Film &#38;amp; TV from Swinburne University of Technology in 2016, where he studied under full scholarship.

In 2021, his portrait ‘Kevin at Midnight’ was nominated for Australia’s prestigious National Photographic Portrait Prize.

Robinson’s debut feature film as writer and director, First Light, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2025, where he was awarded Best Australian Director. The film later screened at festivals including Rotterdam, Marrakech and Glasgow. It will be released theatrically in mid 2026 by Bonsai Films.

Beyond this work, James is also a disability support worker, lighting designer, and public speaker.
